There is a long tradition of understring fiddles in the Scandinavian countries. The Swedish nyckelharpa and the Norwegian herdingfele are the most popular, but other examples exist going back to the late seventeenth century. Ken’s version, adapted from a damaged Czech factory violin body, features five playing strings and four sympathetic strings. If you look closely, you might notice the gentleman on the peg head smiling if he likes the tune.
